Bill MacKay is a highly-regarded guitarist-composer-improviser based in Chicago who has energized experimental folk, rock, and avant-garde scenes with his radiant songwriting, and creative and unpredictable approach to the guitar. He is also a writer, emerging polyglot, activist and visual artist. He has been recording & releasing records, and contributing to those of other musicians, since 2004. This show celebrates the release of his new record Esker, his debut recording on Drag City. Joining Bill to celebrate are two of his dear friends and collaborators: Renowned cellist Katinka Kleijn (Chicago Symphony Orchestra, International Contemporary Ensemble) opens the night with a pair of experimental compositions. After MacKay's set, Marc Riordan an extraordinary drummer-pianist-filmmaker (Wishgift, Tres Hongos, Cairo Gang) will close the show with a set at the piano.
