Eleanor Ray's Solo Exhibition
Opening Night: June 24th from 6-10pm
About the Show:
Wicked Games is a series of oblique and game-based strategies to create sanctuary, deflect interpersonal- and macro-violence, and short-circuit trauma via applied spookiness and color codes (results may vary). Occult structures imbued with sweet animal powers and hormonally-imbalanced 90s pop music support fantasies indigestible by pinterest algorithms. Among other offerings, the masculinity carpaccio is tender and slightly acid; the apocalypse is close captioned for the benefit of our ancestors and those tuning in from parallel universes, but the best jokes don't appear on the tapes. It's mostly paper and unaccountable textures.
About the Artist:
Eleanor Ray is a multimedia artist and sublimating glacial mass from Chicago, IL. She has a degree but it's in art history. Her work is made from almost entirely reused materials, and frequently takes the properties and possibilities of unusual or overlooked materials as a point of departure for her experiments. She works extensively in textile, found object, and costume formats, with forays into printmaking, painting, drawing, collage, installation, video and dance. Eleanor's work has been shown in Russia, Scotland, and Antarctica as well as the United States. She is also the founder and Executive Director of The WasteShed, a nonprofit creative reuse center that encourages sustainable use of materials and quiet glee at the unravelling of capitalism.
