Set in a knowingly artificial New York, Fritz Lang's Scarlet Street follows unhappily-married cashier, Chris Cross (Edward G. Robinson), as he runs afoul of a gorgeous Jezebel (Joan Bennett) and her vicious beau (Dan Duryea). A companion to his femme-fatale thriller, The Woman in the Window, Fritz Lang's Scarlet Street underscores its predecessor's grotesque farce, spinning its pulpy doom story in a style both nihilistic and campy.
