Downtown Highland will be the site of the 2017 Highland Festival of the Trail on Saturday, October 14th, from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm. This year's event, hosted by Highland Main Street and the Highland Redevelopment Commission, will be on Jewett Street, from Kennedy Avenue to 4th Street (location of the Highland branch of the LC Public Library). Admission to the festival is free.
The festival will feature at least 29 artist and commercial vendors, including representatives of direct sales companies, such as Lula Roe, Scentsy, and Arbonne as well as downtown Highland businesses such as Promise You Art House, The Annex and Tiger Plumbing. There will also be live music and poetry readings “At The Murals” throughout the festival, featuring local bands and poets.
The event's themes are the arts and fitness, and this year’s festival will also include a «Fun Run/ Walk» with Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana, tricycle races hosted by Milestone Therapy, sidewalk poetry, activities both inside and outside the Highland Branch of the Lake County Public Library, and a small Farmer's Market, hosted by Zandstra's Farm and Greenhouse. Downtown Highland will also play host to the Highland Fire Department's annual Open House event on Highway Avenue and 4th Street, providing a great family-friendly atmosphere for visitors. Having multiple downtown events on the same day will also allow downtown merchants sidewalk sale opportunities, as well as encourage restaurants to offer food specials for event visitors.
