Arts in the Dark is a magical nighttime Halloween parade that draws together world renowned institutions like the Art Institute of Chicago, guilds of creatives like the architects assembled by Chicago’s Architectural Biennial, and aspiring artists in every field.
As dusk arrives, our creative communities will assemble for a powerful procession filled with large spectacle, legions of lanterns, costumes, performances, music, dance, dramatic lighting, moving platforms and more! The parade, traveling north on Columbus from Balbo to Monroe, will be led by 8 «Illuminators» — some of Chicago’s most influential creative leaders.
This enchanting evening parade allows us the opportunity to bring Chicago’s entire cultural community together – from the most esteemed to the aspiring – to celebrate our power as a sector and our importance to the vitality of this city.
The Arts in the Dark festivities will kick-off at 4:00 at Buckingham Fountain, where The Chicago Blackhawks will host a pre-parade celebration — special highlights will include the Blackhawks street team, music and a Blackhawks inspired mural featuring Halloween elements to commemorate the artist’s holiday in conjunction with hockey. The mural will be displayed for party-goers to take photos with and post to social media for the chance to win Blackhawks prizes.
Following the parade, (DCASE) will host a “House Party at the Bean”, and Maggie Daley Park will present a family-friendly Halloween movie and candy giveaways.
This family-friendly event is free and open to the public.
