The Japanese Culture Center invites you to our 5th annual Open House!
Saturday, October 14th from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Admission is FREE!
This is a wonderful opportunity to see authentic Japanese cultural arts, such as Chanoyu (tea ceremony), Ikebana (flower arrangement), Shodo (calligraphy), Sumi-e (ink painting) and more!
Encounter special performances of large scale calligraphy by Hekiun Oda Shihan, Taiko (Japanese drumming) by Tsukasa Taiko, large scale ink painting by Patricia Larkin Green Sensei, Japanese musical performance by Hanauta Duo, and board breaking by USBA WBA Tournament record holder John Zurisk Sensei.
Additionally, there will be several martial arts demonstrations such as Aikido, Bujinkan Taijitsu, Capoeira, JKA Karate, Shorinji Kempo, and Shuriken Jitsu.
Visitors can also experience and try out Japanese arts at origami and calligraphy booths! There will also be a Japanese sword table...and more!
The Open House will have a raffle with great prizes, such as gift cards, Japanese speciality goods and art, and much more! All proceeds will benefit the Japanese Arts Foundation (501©(3) nonprofit) that helps make the arts of Japan accessible to Chicago and beyond!
