«A Tribute to Eduardo Galeano, Hunter of Stories,»: It is a series of readings, stories, anecdotes, videos and music by friends and admirers in NYC, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Berkeley, Los Angeles, Santa Fe to celebrate the publication of Galeano's last work, HUNTER OF STORIES, Nation Books/Hachette.

CHICAGO PARTICIPANTS:

REY ANDÚJAR is the author of various works of fiction. His novel Candela (Alfaguara, 2008) received an award from the PEN Club of Puerto Rico and was chosen as one of the best novels of the year by the newspaper El Nuevo Día. Saturnario, another short story collection,won the Premio Letras de Ultramar 2010.

JUANA IRIS GOERGEN. Latin American Literature professor at DePaul University. As a poet she has published La sal de las brujas (Finalist Letras de oro, 1997), La piel a medias (2001), Las ilusas/Dreamers (2008) y Mar en los huesos (2017). She is the initiator and co-organizer in Chicago of the International Poetry Festival/Poesía en abril, at present in its tenth year.

JUAN MORA-TORRES. He received his Ph.D. in Latin American history from the University of Chicago. He currently teaches Latin American history at DePaul University. He is the author of «The Making of the Mexican Border» (University of Texas Press). He is currently working on the book «Pilsen and Mexican Chicago: A History of a Barrio, 1950-1983.»

ANDREA SALCEDO. Flamenco Guitar. A native of Mexico, Ms. Salcedo is the first female flamenco guitarist from her home country. She graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance on Classical Guitar from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. She has performed in festivals such as the Chicago Flamenco Festival and the VII Latin American Guitar Festival of Chicago in 2017, and venues and universities such as Chicago Symphony Hall, Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Chicago Cultural Center, Old Town School of Folk Music, University of Illinois at Chicago, and Chicago State University.

LAURO LÓPEZ (actor). Studied acting in the Theatrical University Center in the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM in Spanish) and the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA in Spanish) in Mexico City. Since 1968, he has been involved in theatre in Mexico and the United States.

ROCÍO SANTOS is a radio producer, host and music curator at Vocalo/Chicago Public Media for Domingos en Vocalo. Since 2006, she has co-hosted and co-produced the leading Latin-alternative specialty music program Rock Sin Anestesia at Loyola University’s WLUW. She currently produces Tren Al Sur, a monthly podcast dedicated to the discovery of music labels in Latin America. She is also a contributor and member of the editorial board of El BeiSMan.

Event will be in Spanish and there will be a reception before the program.
