Brian Johannesen with Ryan Joseph Anderson
Some bands were born to play together. Literally.
Comprised of fraternal twin brothers Asmodan and Big Safari, THE TROLLS have honed their heavy, oddball style of rock since they were old enough to bang a gong. However, the Chicago duo's on-stage mischief often took precedent over the music itself. After journeying on a vision quest, the brothers decided to step up their songwriting game. New grooves, new riffs, and a newfound attention to detail followed. The result is Vs. The Shadow Pyramid, THE TROLLS debut album. On the record, Asmodan and Big Safari explore themes of time, hope, despair and love through their wonderfully warped perspective.
When asked for comment about the new record, Big Safari and Asmodan simply said the following. «The Shadow Pyramid represents negativity forming in someone's heart. With a little perseverance, we can work to break the Shadow Pyramid together.»
— BRIAN JOHANNESEN is an alt-country singer/songwriter currently based in Iowa City. Originally from Chicago, he’s opened for Justin Townes Earle, Shovels and Rope and is a big frequenter at the Hideout. Joining him this evening is RYAN JOSEPH ANDERSON. Anderson is an established Chicago songwriter whose work is strongly inspired by country blues and psychedelic folk. We’re excited to see what these two song-weavers stitch together for this Friday celebration.
PLANETSEXPLODER comes out of hibernation for their yearly show to prove to their dominance, like Dick Clark hosting New Year’s Rockin’ Eve until his untimely passing after the great 2011-12 extravaganza featuring Pitbull, Robin Thicke, and Justin Beiber. Fog starts an hour before the show. Bring your gasmask.
