“A transgressive explosion…sets this film apart from all the known images about Iran.”
—Fabien Lemercier, Cineuropa
This boldly evocative adult animation dares to tell a story of Tehran’s darkest corners, where Pari, a middle-aged hooker with a young child, stoically plays the bad hand dealt to a woman of her station, even as fate ironically makes her a trusted player in the lives of others. The noisy streets of the city are alive in harsh colors and with forbidden nightlife in Soozandeh’s stark vision of a milieu in which the modern metropolis coexists with the ancient rules and systemic corruption that thwart dreams. In Persian with English subtitles. DCP digital.
Part of the 28th Annual Festival of Films from Iran.
