Jesse W. Johnson
JESSE W. JOHNSON plays hooky-yet-dark rock’n’roll with the tiniest little twinge of country twang. Originally from Springfield, IL, JOHNSON grew up listening to his parents’ cassette tapes of Genesis and Don Henley while dancing around the dining room table in his underwear. After falling in love with the idea of songwriting through the Beatles, JESSE decided to pick up a guitar after seeing a ...CSNY concert in 2001 (boy, are we glad he did). In 2008, JOHNSON co-founded the band ‘Jet W. Lee’ and re-located to Chicago. That same year, he formed a new solo band and continued to tour the country extensively. 10 years later and JESSE is still at it, releasing some of his most personal and lyrically intense work to date.
Chicago’s MUTTS are a keys/bass/drums trio described as “like Tom Waits fronting a garage band” by Time Out Magazine. Gaining critical acclaim from literally anyone who listens to them, these passionate blues rockers have been at it for nearly ten years despite a heap of adversity. Shining through on their latest and aptly named project, Stick Together, MUTTS finds themselves delivering their strongest and most powerful project without ever coming off too cheeky. It’s honest, raw and completely necessary today.
A smack of sunshine, IMPULSIVE HEARTS deliver in-your-face surf pop that’ll have you hankerin’ for that sweet swell days after. Picking up where recent revivalist acts like Dum Dum Girls and Best Coast have left off, the HEARTS add just a hint of indelible Midwestern sadness to the neo-girl group garage rock sound. The airiness of dream pop and the toe-tappiness of surf-pop all mixed up with the kind of fuzzy guitars that we’re all suckers for around here.
