Become immersed in the lands of both Mexico and Palestine through a private gathering of fusion cuisine by Abeer Najjar
, traditional performances by Mary Hazboun
and Zacbe Pichardo
, spoken word piece by Kevin Coval
, and a special premiere screening of the trailer of a new documentary film, Traces of Home. All contributions will go towards production costs for the film in Palestine and Mexico.
Currently in pre-production, Traces of Home is a feature-length film documenting the harrowing pasts of director Colette Ghunim's Mexican mother and Palestinian father. Forced to flee decades ago due to both domestic and political violence, they will embark on a journey together to find their original houses in Mexico and Palestine, which they both never returned to since they escaped. With an uptick in vandalism, threats, and intimidation, the Latino and Arab communities are the current target of both racist and hateful acts. Traces of Home tells a story that focuses instead on a positive narrative of a biracial family that needs to be heard during such turbulent times. Fiscally sponsored by Kartemquin Films, Traces of Home will be released in early 2020.
